Burning Gates form in Turin in 1994, with original line up made up by Michele Piccolo (vocals and guitar), Andrea Cannella (guitar), Davide Bo (drums) and Giulio Forsi (bass), and release their debut album, ‘Risvegli’ in 1996. Bassist Giulio Forsi is replaced by old friend of the band Daniele ‘Danny’ Tartaglia in 1997 and soon afterwards, as well as throughout Italy, the band begin playing regularly abroad. In the next few years, two more albums are released (‘Aurora Borealis’ in 1999 and ‘Wounds’ in 2001, both distributed worldwide by various labels), along with a 7” split-single with German band The House of Usher, while several other tracks appear on many compilations and samplers. Burning Gates now tour regularly all over Europe and also appear at such iconic festivals and events as Judgment Day in Austria (twice), Leipzig’s world-famous Wave-Gotik Treffen and Herbstnaechte in Germany, Heaven’s Gate in France and Carnival of Souls, Invocation and Dystopia in the UK.
Davide had meantime been replaced by Igor Cavallari on drums, and after the latter decides to leave too the band put all activities on hold at the end of 2001 and, due also to bassist Danny’s having meantime permanently relocated to the UK, eventually officially split in 2002; that was the end of it, or so it seemed at the time…
2015 – after a few conversations held over the years between former members (who had all kept active in the alternative music scene and formed and/or been part of various other bands), to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first release – independently released tape “Nel Profondo” – Burning Gates decide to return to the scene for one last period of time, in their classic and longest-lasting line-up made up by Michele Piccolo (vocals and guitars), Andrea Cannella (guitars), Danny Tartaglia (bass) and Davide Bo (drums). One last fire which started burning again in the Autumn of 2015 and will do so for approximately a year, with concerts scheduled in various European countries to mark the event. To coincide with this, Strobelight Records will release a compilation of the band’s hits and classics, called Shadows of the Past: a Retrospective 1995-2001 – Catch them while you can!
THE RITUAL WILL NEVER DIE!
